28 January 07:30 to 11:30 UTC
Location: Ulverston SAR Units: Walney CRT, Millom CRT, Ulverston IRT PMIS - Person missing - On the evening of the 27th January 2012
Liverpool Coastguard received a call from Cumbria Police requesting
assistance to search for a 44 year old male who had been missing for
some days in the Ulverston area.
Liverpool RCC called the Station Officer of Walney CRT to start the
arrangements for a first light search, the police had requested a search
be undertaken from Greenodd to Bardsea a large and complicated area of
coastline with areas of marshland, quicksand, old slag banks fish pools
and some woodland.
As a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 the Coastguard Rescue Service may be called upon to deploy and assist with an inland water rescue or flood in areas where HM Coastguard
does not have primary coordination responsibility.
The number of flood incidents has increased in recent years, and HM Coastguard must be in a position to respond to these incidents by providing a rescue capability including responding to inland incidents, as seen at the recent floods in Cockermouth, Backbarrow, Ulverston and Carlisle.
